Three Quick Ways To Keep Dry Skin At Bay

If you live in the north, you know what's coming: cold, merciless air, the kind that cracks unsuspecting skin just like that. The kind that makes you wish you’d open a juice stand down south.

And it's that same seasonal shift that piles flakes on the shoulders of good men.

Don't be that guy if you can help it.

Heed our three tips below on how to keep your skin healthy and hydrated, all winter long.

1. Face First

Winter is a veritable vampire for human skin.

Don’t use too much moisturizer (a couple pump’s worth will do), otherwise you’ll clog up your pores and undo your face wash’s hard work.

Go easy on the moisturizer (a couple pump’s worth will do), otherwise you’ll clog up your pores and undo your face wash’s hard work.

Dark, yes, but it makes sense since moisture gets sucked out of your dermis when humidity makes way for the cold. Another thing: Based on a report published by the National Library of Medicine in May 2019, your face is "highly innervated," meaning there are more nerves under its skin, and as such, it's more sensitive.

Keep your mug looking bright after you wash with a good moisturizer that won't get greasy.

How To Use It:

Start with your “T-Zone.” This is your nose plus the sport between your eyebrows… and even said brows if they’re flaking. After that, anything that looks dry’s fair game. Don’t use a lot, though; your pores won’t like it.

2. Heads Of Hair Need Love, Too

According to a 2018 Cleveland Clinic article, the longer your hair the higher the chances it'll need conditioner, and here's why: Sebum, your scalp's natural moisturizing oil, takes longer to travel down three inches of hair than, say, one.

If this is you, massage a few pump's worth of our Fortifying Conditioner into your hair after you've shampooed, let it sit for three minutes so that Shea Butter can do its thing, then rinse. Enjoy looking paralyzingly handsome.

Skip conditioning at your hair’s peril.

3. Mind Your Hand Care

We all know to keep our hands clean (wash up every time you get back from errands), but all that contact with water takes its toll; The more your hands get wet, the more they'll dry up. And even if you wear gloves, there's no escaping indoor heating.

A little of our Active Relief Hand Cream once to twice a day will keep your paws from feeling like rocks. And yes, it absorbs fast and does double duty as a body moisturizer without breaking a sweat.

Bonus Tip

Either ditch the hot showers and baths or avoid them altogether.

Hot showers are heaven after a day out in the cold but they’re anything but they’re bad for your skin; the heat strips your skin of moisture, drying it out in the process.

Opt for lukewarm water and you’ll be fine.
